Okay I'l try and explain what happened to my pc.

So 2 days ago, I wanted to open my pc and log in everywhere I use to log in...
My pc was shut down, and i SWEAR I did not shot it down the last time I used it. So I turn it on, and it starts but asks me if I want to start in secure or regular mode...
The next time i try to open my pc it is not shut down, but refuses to get out of standby mode, and I have to force it to restart....

Facebook: says something about being unsecure, and npt sure that I'm communicating with the real Facebook site, so I had to choose if I wanted to go on - I said no thanks, I have never seen sutch a message before, so I was'nt sure what to believe....

MSN: Refuses to log on, I did the MSN troubleshoot, and it says something about keyports???? not connecting with the server..... Says that my firewall may have blocked it?

404: No problem, but my pc refuses to log me in automatically.
Two different babysites: same thing as 404.

Does anybody know what's wrong here? I tried scanning many times, but nothing comes up. Apparently I do'nt have virus or anything like that, but I just can't think of what else is wrong???? And how do I get rid of something my pc can't find it self???

I have been getting a pop up, seems to be a Java update, but it comes from an unknown part, so I kept saying no to it. There has been other Java updates since, and none of them looks like the one I described... Could it fuck with my pc even if I do'nt try and update with it?

I am very good at not clicking any links that comes through MSN unless I'm sure someone send it to me on purpose. So I'm sure I have'nt clicked anything stupid on MSN. Completely sure...
I do get loads of spam mail in my hotmail, but I delete them an never click anything in them either...
The only thing i can think of, is maybe something from Facebook?

But how the hell do I get rid of it?

Anyone know anything about this????

Thanks alex...

I clicked your link, and got to the site, but as soon as I hit free version I got that warning site again - saying that it's not safe to go there????? should I or should I not do it anyway? My browser says it unsafe... exactly as if i try and log in to Facebook....

i have a clip out of the warning from trying to enter facebook, but i can't figure out how to get a picture in here....

Hey i chose to proceed anyway, and download the free version, but my pc kills it, and refuses to allow me to even open the program after downloading it.... My own virus scan thingy from microsoft refuses to update and completely scan as welll...

Think I'm really fucked up here......

Yeah, you put your trust in Microsoft Antivirus.
Heh, during the netsikker.nu campaign, we had someone write who also felt safe with MS ;-).

Please check your internet options, connectivity and see if there's a "proxy server" set up.

I have no idea of what your saying to me... I'm well aware that microsofts own programs are fare from the best... however it is what I got right now, so it will have to do...

i can't seem to get anything else working at all right now....

I'm doing a scan - again- right now, with microsoft security essentials, but usually it stops somewhere, and then it finds nothing.... I asked it to do a full scan this time, instead of the quick scan....

Internet options > settings > anything "network related" > proxy settings, see if there's a proxy set up.

F-Secure is epic.

I use Avast, it works amazingly.
Also, if you have problems running Malawarebytes again (because that is also epic), go into your windows explorer, find the executable file for it (it's something like mawb.exe) and rename it to something else. It should work after that.

Again... What? Sigh sometimes i really feel in very deep water here....

What, Avast has web-filtering now?

TheUber
18th October 2010, 06:35
It always has, at least for as long as I've been using it for.

Froberg
18th October 2010, 06:36
Implemented how?

And yeah, I used to have Avast until it became so bloated that it rendered most everything unusable.

I use microsoft essential AV at home and I dont have any problems with it. I used to have Bullguard, also used Avast, AVG, F-secure, Kaspersky and they've always blocked things. well apart from F-secure, it was quite stable as was AVG.

Froberg
18th October 2010, 16:55
F-Secure is the best AV out there at the moment, in my opinion.

If you don't notice your av/firewall it's probably because it's completely too lax.

Ditto. People just give it a bad wrap because Microsoft's name is attached to it, but it's actually one of the better free AV programs out there these days. It catches viruses, spyware, and malware of all kinds. I've yet to have it fail on me. One of the few Microsoft products I would highly recommend. Plus it has the benefit of complete integration with Windows. The only "downside" to it is that you have to have a genuine copy of Windows activated for full functionality.

ESET Nod32 Antivirus

Froberg

ESET is actually really quite good, shame the support is lacking.

LoBo; Funny how Security Essentials is so good, yet people keep becoming parts of botnets and get infected by trojans and malware with it running.

I got sick of bullguard with my old pc, it was too hard on the system and slowed my pc down EXTREMELY... So I deleted it and got AVAST instead..... Remarkable chance right away....

Okay then :) Never heard of it... But there's lots of stuff i do'nt know about software (and even more i do'nt know about hardware). Sometimes I'm quit amazed that none of my Pc's has ever blown up in my face LOL

Lots of people get infected with lots of things using all different kinds of programs. A lot of which can be attributed to user "error".

Baaaaah I'm actually usually really good with these things... being carefull and all, and even being able to correct stuff my self... So, I still wonder what happened... Some geek told me that it might have been a regular harmless update just fucking it up.... I do'nt know, but everything works like a charm now, and I have'nt lost og deleted anything... And every update since the set back has also worked just fine actually...
Very weird if you ask me...

You can get infected from simply dragging your mouse across an infected banner, those even have a tendency to pop up on large sites.

I know ;) and I hardly ever click any banners, unless i know it is a real shop or something else I already know about... Commercials just bother me in general, and I newer use them really ;) Anyways, you can never be sure to be free of infection on the pc, but you can take precorsions and at least not click everything....

Someone I konw got a pop up the other day, saying that his pc was definately infected, and that he should use this and taht programfor a free scan, and then download the program for further safety - biggest mistake ever. I can not comprehend how people still fall for that trick...

Cost him 1500 DK to fix it ;)

Froberg

Froberg

Yeah, so you wouldn't accidentally have your cursor move over any of the banners on, for example, cnn.com or eb.dk ?

I probably would sometime... I KNOW what you mean Frobbe... No need to chop it to pieces ;) All I'm saying is that I actually consider my self as carefull as possible, in these things. And that IF something accures, I'm usually reasonable good at correcting it my self.... I eas just really in trouble this time, except from the fact that I apparently did'nt have a virus anyway, but maybe an update fuck-up ;)
I do'nt really care anymore, it's working quit fine now ;)

HAD to add: with in reasonable borders ofcourse ;) I am NOT one of those women who allways take the womans site in any gender discussion ;) How ever, i still say that many things would be alot easier if guys would just do as they are told to (mostly)

Nice to see that frobbe is well enough to be in here late at night, but to sick to come to work...
BOFH is not angry but VERY disappointed.
And no afterwork beer for you.

As a little note I can confirm that frobbe is in fact scared of everything female. Even drawings of them.
