View Full Version : Dialog Box Positioning in Windows 7

Does anyone know of a way to "set" a certain default position for any given dialog box that pops up? I just recently upgraded my PC at work and I'm now running on Windows 7 64-bit (yay!). I finally got all 4 of my monitors (yes, FOUR) setup up so each screen is dedicated to certain programs and I have arranged the windows effectively to allow for the most efficient workflow. However, I run a lot of custom macros that pop up dialog boxes to enter variables and such that are used constantly. Not to mention everytime I save anything. But right now, for whatever reason most of the dialog boxes that pop up for certain programs (mostly Excel 2007) pop up in such retarded places. Such as in the very far top corner 3 screens away from the one that the active program is open on.

Having to scroll my mouse across 4 screens just to select an option on the dialog box is both incredibly annoying and a waste of time (especially when added up over the course of a day). So does anyone know how I can "lock" the default position that a particular dialog box opens at? I've tried moving them manually when they pop up to a place that I like before I select an option to close the dialog box, but then next time that same dialog box pops up it's back in the original position, tucked up in a corner 3 screens away. I'm getting ready to pull my hair out. This has been driving me nuts all friggin' day! Help? Anyone?

Can you not just use keyboard shortcuts?

Unfortunately no. Most of the dialog boxes that are causing me problems aren't just simple "Yes/No" or "OK/Cancel" situations. Many of them have fields which I need to fill in before I progress to the next one. Custom Macros and all that. So irritating...

Tab key?

No good. The fields I fill in need to be a copy and paste from another program on another screen. Thus the dialog box is no longer the "active window". Most efficient way is to just Click the field and Ctrl+V, but when the box is no longer centered on my main screen that process becomes annoying and tiresome. Besides, all these suggestions are just band-aid solutions and are not actually solving the problem. And I hate band-aids...
