Who here believes in hell?

As in eternal torment, or just a place where all the 'sinners' go?

If there is a heaven and a hell, is there a battle for our souls going on?

To me it seems that God has basicly given up on us, if he doesn't realize that He has given us free will, and that we are inherently sinners, how can he expect us to be Angels?

I don't know.. looking at concepts of heaven and hell as seen in Dogma, Spawn and other such movies/comics hell doesn't seem that bad when compared to heaven?

I mean, if hell's building an army to march on the gates of Heaven, why'd there be eternal torment involved? :S

If we look at how hell is portrayed in the Movie Constantine, it seems like hell is a layer upon our own world - but still - why would Lucifer, if he really is a rebel against God make Hell into such a bad place?

Wouldn't he make it a somewhat good place to be, in hopes of overthrowing God eventually?

If Lucifer has more souls than God, shouldn't he wield more power?

Thats it, thats the end. No afterlife, no Heaven, no hell. You just die. Your body decomposes and breaks down into its component parts, and you are no more.

Hell is a construct of man created to deal with behaviors that society finds immoral. It's another layer of control, made for those believers for which the incentive of eternal bliss is not enough. It's a natural progression from the idea of heaven. If there is only a heaven then those who we believe have done wrong will be rewarded just as much as those who we believe have lived a good life.

The idea of Satan is man's struggling with the more primitive and selfish aspects of our psyche. It's sort of humanity's way of avoiding the blame for it's own problems. If we can believe that man is inherently a "sinner" not because of our own faults, but because of the machinations of the Devil, then humanity can attempt to alleviate societal problems while avoiding any responsibility for them.

Hell is the state of being where you are completely removed from God. Heaven is the state of being where you are fully with God. They are not places you go to.

And the people who 'talk' with the dead are liers, thieves, and asshats, and should be shot in the balls.

If you have the chance, take a look at the transcript of the "reading" that a famous "clairvoyant performed on professional skeptic, James Randy.

All of these scum depend on *you* answering their questions so that *they* can tell you stuff you already know. At the reading in question, the clairvoyant kept asking for clues about the object Randy had. Since Randy had been given the object (a silver belt buckle) only a few hours before by a friend, he didn't know anything about it.

End of story: The cheap whore throws down the belt buckle and screams, "if you don't know anything about it, then how am I supposed to find out?"

No they fucking dont. *some* are good at extracting information from people and repeating it back to them. *Most* of them parrot vague bullshit until someone goes "ooh".
