They're very popular in many countries..

But most europeans understand most of what they're singing, but in most english speaking countries, german isn't really a top priority language to learn.

So what's the facination if you don't understand the lyrics? The beat?

I like Rammstein. For me, theres two parts to music: the meaning of the lyrics, and the actual sound of the songs. I put more stock in the sound of the music, than in the lyrics. Thats not to say that I dont appreciate the lyrics of a lot of songs, the sound and beat is just more important to me. However, with most foreign songs, I do make it a point to find out what the lyrics mean, or at least glean a bit of understanding from what little language skill I have.

I think Rammstein is another really over-rated band. They have some really awesome songs, but I find most of their stuff to be terribly mediocre.... I do really love some of their stuff though, and I'd probably buy their greatest hits, should one ever be released...

You don't need to understand the language to know it's good music. It's like listening to Norwegian black metal or Native American folk music; you don't need to understand the words to enjoy it. The music itself is always more important than the lyrics.

I saw Rammstein back in 2001 at the Pledge of Allegiance Tour and they kicked ass... sans the fact there were some Nazi fucks goosestepping about the pit during their set. (not to worry though... much like SLC Punk, me and my friends don't take kindly to skinheads and being in a mosh pit... well do the math... muhahaha)

Anyway, the only English they really spoke was introducing System of a Down and it didn't seem to matter.
Rock is a universal language.

Rammstein is awesome live. They were second only to Slipknot at POA 2001. Didn't have many skinheads though, seeing how this is southern california\extended mexico.

Actually, if you watch the interviews on the Live Aus Berlin DVD, they talk about when Herzeleid was released and they had 6 well built, fair skinned Germans on the front they got a lot of flak for projecting an image of the "master race". They were like, "What the hell? It's just a photo..."

Well its part of their history... Manson's dressed like a nazi and got nothing out of the ordinary for it...

Which is why I found it so strange.
If you look at the cover of Herzeleid it's just a bunch of naked guys in front of a flower. People over reacted just because they're German
