[This was an idea Ryan had that just didn't quite pan out but I wrote on it anyway without going too far into detail since I wasn't sure what kind of angle I would end up using... so I just kept all 3, I plan on doing individual articles on Ma on Brooks as they are both sources of excellent info]

"If I had some duct tape, I could fix this." - Macgyver

Your worst fear has come true. The dead have risen. The TV is buzzing with reports of attacks and telling you to destroy the brain. The sirens and screams are getting louder. Suddenly there's a slow incessant pounding on your door.

The dead are here.

You've got less than a minute before they break down your door and are after you. Quickly you grab whatever is lying around the house in order to defend yourself. These few seconds are all that stand between you and a grisly death, make them count!

Most of the time when asked what they would do if an apocalyptic situation involving zombies were to arise, most people will state something about getting their chainsaw and their favorite boomstick and going to town. While this worked in the Evil Dead films even Bruce Campbell is noted to regard the significant weight to wielding a chainsaw.

Too often people are lulled by creature comforts or modern luxury. Certain shortages of supplies are often considered in disaster situations: food, water, medicine but rarely is ammunition considered. Since the discovery of gunpowder by the Chinese to repel invading Mongols, modern warfare has never been the same. As a society and a species we are too reliant upon guns to solve our problems both domestically and internationally. But what if there was suddenly no ammunition left to be had? Where would that leave you? Do you know how to manufacture your own bullets? Do you have the tools? The time? The technical know-how? If so, then you have a leg up on the rest of the populace and a bit of an advantage. For the rest of us poor sods, we need to learn to make the best out of what we have on hand. This is where weapon improvisation can be a life saving skill if properly utilized. Break out the duct tape!

So in your one minute rampage to grab various odds and ends to craft your zombie eliminating weapon of doom, you remembered to grab something to hold it together with right? I mean the last thing you need is for your spearhead to fall off before trying to impale a zombie (and no that’s not a euphemism for necrophilia, perv).

Chuck Green of Capcom’s Dead Rising 2 is the ultimate Macgyver master of duct tape ingenuity. Give this motor cross handyman any number of random items and it will be a guaranteed zombie killer. From the dead simple, a spiked baseball bat, to the brutally efficient, a vacuum cleaner mounted with saw blades or a motorcycle loaded with chainsaws. The game is probably a shining example of what not to do in real life, but then again what video game isn’t? But that’s not the point, the point is to get creative and kill zombies in the most imaginative ways possible (I’d like a pitchfork-mounted shotgun if I thought I could get away with it in the real world!). Get creative! Have fun with it! If you screw up, hey there’s the reset button for a reason. Enjoy it! For if there is ever such an outbreak you’d best remember: The game is your life, if you die its game over man.

Author Max Brooks goes into extensive weapons detailing in his book Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead. He makes special note that you want something light, portable and sharp and to go for straight edges as well since serrations have a tendency of getting caught in flesh at inopportune moments. Guns cause noise, noise draws attention, attention gets you killed so silence is a key factor. Katanas, crowbars and machetes are usually considered for their effectiveness and reliability. The key to any tool is knowing how to handle and use it.

Roger Ma takes some of the key points set out by Max Brooks and runs even further with them. Have you considered your exact point of attack on a zombie? Sure hit it in the head, but are you sure you'll make a killshot or will your weapon just get stuck? Consider improvised weapons before trying to find a replica of a classic. Take for example the handy dandy sidewalk scraper at your local hardware store over the shiny lethal looking sword from the mall cutlery store, which do you think will be more effective? Read Roger Ma's Zombie Combat Manual to find out valuable info!

So if you don't own either of these books, what are you waiting for? Go get them now! Your survival of the zombie apocalypse may depend on it!

What a title, eh?

For those of you who know me well, you'll recall that I donate blood on a regular basis, and that I also volunteer at the blood clinics. For those of you who know CBS (Canadian Blood Services) well, you'll recall that any man who answers yes to having anal sex with another man gets automatically deferred. This has been an issue for a while. I personally feel it is a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, especially considering the context and extremely wide blanket the population covers. And apparently, I'm not the only one.

In September of 2009, a gay man who had donated blood several times in the past sued Canadian Blood Services on grounds that questions asking about his sexuality was a violation of the Charter. The specific question is "Have you ever had sex with a man since 1977, even one time?", to which Mr. Freeman answered no to during his previous donations. This caused CBS to sue him, to which he filed the above counter-suit. (More information available at http://unambig.com/should-homosexual...-giving-blood/)

September 9th of this year, Canadian judge Catherine Aitken sided with CBS, stating that "[The] impact [of being deferred as a blood donor] is not in the same league as a blood recipient who has to use blood or blood products in order to survive or make life livable, and who is asked to accept lower safety standards even though an adequate supply of blood could be provided if higher safety standards were imposed." (Full article at http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2010/09/09...-bans-gay-men/)

In repsonse, CBS CEO Dr. Sher said in support of the decision, "All our policies are developed based on sound scientific facts about risk and are intended to reduce or pre-empt the introduction of those risks to recipients of blood products." (And again, see the rest at http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/200640.php)

My problem is not with deferring those who have the potential of carrying HIV. My problem is with the fact any man who has had anal sex with another man, even once, in the past 33 years is automatically rejected. This is an extremely wide period of time and population being covered, and in my opinion an unneccessarily wide one. First off, all donors are automatically tested for HIV, as well as a couple other conditions, regardless of any answers given. If the test is positive, the blood is disposed of and the person in question is informed and is basically put on the blacklist of blood donors. Now, scientific evidence shows that HIV is undetectable in these tests for the first 3 months. So, why is the question covering from now until 1977, and not simply the past 3 months? Hell, I'd be alright with the past 6 months, just to be safe. But the past 33 years just isn't necessary, and I believe such a question is a violation of the Charter.

Since Fro is a lazy mofo I must do this and stuff, lets hope I can keep it active :o

http://www.snowleopard.org/ has been saving snow leopards for 25 years now and I think you should drag some cash over to them. The snow leopards are one of the most endangered species, atleast among the catspecies.

So some quick facts for you then why these cats are obviously your superiors.

- They can live without clothes were you cannot, because they have awesome fur. If you're caught poaching it'll give you a nifty 5-15 years in jail in Napal and 25000$ in USA if you're trying to smuggle it in.

- They are solitary and only finds others when its mating time or with their cubs until they are mature enough to leave on their own. Thats between 18 and 22 months. Much sooner than us I bet.

- They mark their territory and considering that they have rather large territories and they lose alot of habitat cause of us humans. A home range may be as small as 12 km2 (5 sq mi) to 40 km2 (15 sq mi) and up to five to ten animals are found here per 100 km2 (40 sq mi); whereas in habitats with sparse prey, an area of 1,000 km2 (400 sq mi) supports only five of these cats.

- Can take down prey three times their own size. If necessary they also eat vegetation like grass and twigs.

- There are only 3500 - 7000 snow leopards left in the wild, thats quite few, so help these superior beings survive. Extinction is forever and to lose a such important race as the snow leopard can be critical for the mountains they live in.

That was some quick awesome facts. Now you can go try live in Napal without clothes and only your "claws" and "teeth" as an attack.

I just felt like posting now to see how it feels like to have my own blog =D

So being a supervisor at my work is a lot more involved than I expected...I barely got a break at all today. But it's good, and once I get more experience I'll be able to handle it better. Hopefully. But however more difficult it is, the pay is well worth it!

If anybody has any ideas what I should do a semi-regular blog about, feel free to let me know. Not that it'll necessary affect my decision, but it's worth a shot.....right? ;)

This post serves two purposes.

First, I wanted to check out how the front page looked with some actual content on it.

Second, I wanted to inform those who don't read their e-mails, or just plain aren't members yet that we recently upgraded the site to vBulletin Publishing Suite v. 4.0.6.
I was a damn blood-bath and several innocents were either killed or gravely injured in the process.

BUT in the end, we're back baby! I've given all members the ability to blog and create articles. Basically you can decide to start reviewing Video Games or Movies, and post about it here. People can subscribe to your blog, and if you link your profile with Facebook it'll automatically update to your wall.

Anyway, I could go on explaining shit, but it's best if you just try it out (Much like I'm doing) and get used to the new things.
